"I joined SOS Children’s Village when I was in grade 8, I was 14 years old then. I got a job washing cars after matriculating in 2014. I enrolled to study Bachelor of Laws, and during my last year, I struggled with paying my tuition fees. SOS Children's Villages in South Africa paid for my fees and gave me a monthly allowance. I am now a Law graduate and currently enrolled in Practical Legal Training which will help me be admitted as an Attorney of the High Court in one year".

Children have rights and it is important for them to know their rights, to understand how they should be treated, and how they should treat others. This is why 93% of children in alternative care at SOS Children’s Villages in South Africa have received Child Protection Training.

Kgomotso Loate - Child Safeguarding

When children know their rights, they become their own biggest proponents of their safety and well-being. This is critical because our communities are rampant with child neglect and child abuse. They also become their brothers and sisters keepers when they know where and to whom to report violations of their rights. Empowering them helps us in ensuring that we fulfil our mission of every child growing up in a loving home environment.
