SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth

SOS Children’s Villages began its work in Port Elizabeth in 1989.

SOS Port Elizabeth (Gheberha) was established in 1990 in Schauderville, a suburb with a beautiful view over Algoa Bay.

The village has 13 family houses, which give 91 children and youth a therapeutic place to call home and access specialised intervention services. Through the Family Strengthening Programme, 300 local children are reached with educational, nutritional and psychosocial support.

Drug abuse in the area is instrumental in sucking young children into a world of drugs and gangsterism. SOS Children's Villages Gheberha teams work in collaboration with local partners such as the Department of Social Development to protect children and preserve families.
