SOS Children’s Integrated Village Rustenburg

SOS Children's Village Rustenburg in South Africa's Platinum Belt in the north western region of the country is an integrated village, specifically for our alternative care programme.

SOS Children's Village Rustenburg is the youngest addition to our growing SOS family. Located at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountains, Rustenburg is home to the two largest platinum mines in the world and the world’s largest platinum refinery.

The village was built as a FIFA initiative when South Africa hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup and brings muchneeded long-term childcare to this mining town.

Ten SOS family homes provide alternative care to over 80 children; while another 400 community children are reached through family strengthening work. The family homes of SOS Rustenburg have no identifiable markings and are dotted around one of the suburbs, to help SOS families blend seamlessly into their community.
