SOS Children's Village Cape Town

SOS Cape Town, in the heart of the ‘Mother City’, is another SOS trailblazer

It was officially opened by Nelson Mandela in 1996 and was the first SOS village where SOS mothers and children of different races could live together under one roof. The village is located in Thornton, a beautiful spot with a magnificent view of Table Mountain.

15 family houses currently offer loving alternative homes to 86 children, while 330 community children benefit from the Family Strengthening Programme. SOS takes a holistic approach to child development, and endeavours to offer every child the educational and therapeutic programmes they need to thrive.

Teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and gangsterism are prevalent in the Cape area and SOS works proactively with various partners to address these issues.
