SOS youth on the right track

Finding jobs is a major challenge for South African youth – and yet SOS youth need jobs to become independent and transition to life once they leave SOS. That’s why we’re so excited that SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth is collaborating with Continental Tyre SA in its BestDrive Learnership Programme.

The programme is built around a national certificate in automotive repair and maintenance with a focus on tyre fitment (NQF Level 2).

Continental launched this programme in 2019 and selected four young SOS men for the first intake in July 2019. They have already obtained their competencies and have been placed in temporary positions at tyre stores.

One of them, Sibusiso Sokutu, says he never imagined he would earn a living with his hands – but he enjoys his work and wants to learn more about the tyre industry.

Another four SOS learners were enrolled for the 2020 intake.

Thank you, Continental, for offering SOS beneficiaries a qualification and a competitive edge in an extremely tight jobs market.
