Cape Town – SOS Children’s Villages giving back to the less fortunate
October 2017 – Eleven SOS Children’s Villages youth (5 from FBC and 6 from FSP) attended a camp during the October 2017 school holidays. The camp was held at Keisie valley, just outside of Montagu. They were housed on a farm and participated as volunteers, in a holiday program for about 100 farm children from Keisie Valley. The aim of the camp was to teach the youth to give back to the community, and also for them to experience the fact that there are children less fortunate than they are.
The program was funded by UWC Alumni who have been running this camp for over 5 years. The Youth participated in various activities that included arts & craft, sport, preparing and serving breakfast and lunch to the children, hikes and supervision of the children. The organisers had much praise for the youth, and reported how helpful and cooperative they were.
The youth reported that they had a great time, especially the afternoon they spent at Montagu springs.
